Curtain falls on OS/OCA regional forum 2013

Siem Reap, Cambodia: The two-day Olympic Solidarity/OCA Regional Forum for National Olympic Committees from South East Asia and East Asia drew to a close on Wednesday afternoon at the Sokhalay Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap. Following Olympic Solidarity presentations on Olympic Games subsidies for Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016, details of the Complementary Programme and financial reporting, OCA’s Haider Farman outlined the nine points of the Continental Programme for the new quadrennial 2013-2016.

OCA has received just over US$29 million from Olympic Solidarity for the next four years to provide financial assistance to NOCs for several projects, including the new Social Development Through Olympism category.

Progress reports from the organising committees of the OCA’s two multi-sport games in 2013 - the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, Korea, from June 29 to July 6, and the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, from August 16-24 – rounded off the two-day forum.

Summing up the event, Olivier Niamkey from Olympic Solidarity in Lausanne said: “This is the end of the forum but just the beginning of the quadrennial plan. We hope it was useful for you. We believe you have everything you need to start the quadrennial plan.”

He also thanked the NOC of Cambodia for their hospitality and organisation, the OCA for their collaboration, the four NOCs for their presentations the previous day, the delegates for their questions and attention, and finally the two local organising committees of the upcoming games.

Mr Farman said it had been an honour for him to attend and provide details of the OCA’s Continental Programme for the next four years, and looked forward to meeting everyone again at Incheon and Nanjing this summer. The OS/OCA Regional Forum for NOCs from Central, West and South Asia took place at Colombo, Sri Lanka, last week.
